About the photographer
I began my interest in photography at age 13 when my mom took my sister and I to a photo studio for glamour shots. I loved dressing up with the feather boas and feeling glamorous with fancy hair and make-up. After that my mom let me use her 35 mm SLR and my "career" began. I started having friends over for photo shoots. By the time I was in high school I was photographing senior portraits and doing freelance for the local newspaper. I continued to pursue my photography interest in college where I majored in Fine Art with a concentration in photography and worked as an assistant wedding photographer.
For the past 3 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to work as a photographer for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a Christian relief, peace, and development organization. The photographs in the travel album were all taken on assignment for MCC's magazine "a Common Place".
I use a story-telling approach to my photography and my favorite subjects are people. I find great beauty in the faces and stories of the people I meet and I hope my images can help viewers find a connection with the people and places in my photographs.
